This past week, you were asked to journal about the areas that need the most attention in your life. Under the umbrella of saving "money, calories, and time," I encourage you to verbalize your greatest challenge (or area that is most vulnerable). Many of you know what this will be (finances, eating, over-scheduling) and can candidly share it. Others will be afraid to be honest with themselves or others. Yet, without "confessing our sin" to one another, we just won't get healed (James 5:16).
As you prepare yourself this week for a 12 week journey toward Christmas (without debt, without weight gain, without losing or wasting time), please consider these three questions:
1. What eating and exercise plan will I follow for the next 12 weeks--even on weekends and holidays?
2. What amount of time will I spend with God daily for the next 12 weeks--even on weekends and holidays?
3. How much money--in total--do I/we have to spend on gifts this Christmas?
In the next few weeks, we will get more specific, but unless you have a foundation to prepare yourself (physically, spiritually, mentally, and financially) for this journey, temptations will immediately begin to get you off course.
This week, please journal and post the answer to these 3 questions.
Be encouraged,
Becky

This doesn't seem like it should be that hard...but my heart was racing as I was writing things down. It's the aversion to discipline! So here we go cuz I know that the Lord is calling me to do this!
ReplyDelete1. E & E plan: S4L for the next 7 weeks; 1600 -2000 cal/day for final 5 weeks. Journal food. Minimum 200 min of exercise/week
2. 1 hr/day
3. $2,500.
Thanks for starting us Slic:)
ReplyDelete1. I'm going to eat 1600-2000 (Flat Belly Diet) per day for the next 12 weeks (no See's Candy, no Halloween candy, no over eating at Thanksgiving) and 140 minutes of exercise each week (walk 4 x's) through Christmas Day:)
2. 1 hour a day with the KING:)
3. Family Christmas $500-$750 (same as last year, but I still need to talk to Roger--in which case, it could be less) to include gifts, food, etc. (Note: My graduation trip and family vacation will be around that date, but is not included as a Christmas expense since they are delayed summer events!)
Whew...my heart isn't racing, though it feels responsible!
Becky
Enjoyed the call today.
ReplyDeleteMy replies:
1. Exercise 20 min day, walk, stationary bike, and some core strengthening. Eating--I forget to eat breakfast and lunch. Need to take time!
2. Currently reading CYL Bible, the Psalms and Proverbs. Probably going to add Jeremiah in there, as studying it elsewhere already. Praying nightly shooting for 20 min.
3. Money-small business is too slow to make any kind of budget for Christmas gifts. They will definitely be small. No way to plan, no steady income right now.
1. I will eat fairly low carb. For any baking I do over the holidays, I will allow myself ONE item (and no more than one a day) to taste and enjoy. My exercise plan is as follows (sorry to write it all out!):
ReplyDeleteMonday = yoga 1 hour
Tuesday = weight lifting class 1 hour
Wednesday = walk 1 hour; yoga if time
Thursday = pilates and/or treadmill 1 hour +
Friday = spin class 1 hour
Saturday = pilates and spin class 2 hours
Sunday = walk or spin class 1 hour
2. I will spend an hour on Saturday and an hour on Sunday with God. I will spend 20-30 minutes a morning with God Mondays through Fridays.
3. $1000 absolute maximum and that includes decorations that I purchase. My artsy son wants a very expensive camera and I am struggling with how to make that work for him if possible. He is only 13 but very talented...this is a tough one for me! It would take the bulk of the Christmas money if I do it.
THANKS BECKY!!!!
Becky - I was so encouraged today...I hope you don't mind if I share a progression of scripture that I read today...
ReplyDelete1. We are freed from sin and now slaves to righteousness. We serve a new master and this world has no hold on us. Rom 6:13-22
2. We are supported in this new service through salvation itself. "...It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age..." Tit 2:11-14
3. We must stay alert and tend to it everyday, otherwise it can become a slippery slope and completely get away from us - which is why we all are in this group! Prov 24:30-34
The encouragement we receive from each other is so important in this online group. The personal growth we attain--to be consistent and committed to our Lord and His call upon our lives (no matter what anyone is doing)--is my goal for this group. If you have followed my "Burning Hearts" message, you know where I'm going with us: to be sold out to prayer, set apart in purity in all areas of our lives, and sent out with purpose (to share the Good News as God's ambassadors).
ReplyDeleteAs I consider the 2010 online and personal coaching courses, I feel as if I am going to offer a range of online coaching courses and "levels" of mentoring that equip those who have been with me for a while to become trainers and leaders, especially of those who are younger. (This is not a new idea, but I sense that many of you are in a position where leading others in these "change your life" principles. Different than a bible study, I feel that we need to show/lead/impart biblical principles for living to those around us. We're falling apart as a nation and a culture. And the younger generation does not see politicians, pastors, or parents who are loving God through their lifestyle choices.
Can I get a witness or an Amen here?
Becky
AMEN, Becky!!!!
ReplyDeleteAmen and amen, Becky! That's an awesome, God-inspired plan.
ReplyDeleteAmen again, Becky! A couple of my friends and I were talking at school the other day about today's teens. So many of them have all the material things they could ask for, but they are so needy in other ways. With little discipline or nurturing at home and absolutely no spiritual guidance, they look up to today's celebrities and often imitate the language and behaviors that they see on TV and in the movies. My heart goes out to them, for they are doing the best they know how to get by in a very mixed-up world.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely amen.
ReplyDeleteA friend and I were talking at church today, saying as new members in the church it didnt appear we fit in to some of the groups. We often tried to serve, but God shut some of the doors. Happened to both of us.
She reminded me that our mission field is outside the church.
That's why she used to work with younger folks, and now is even being a witness in a job she holds every year for about three months.
I quite possibly have even shifted my plan of serving, to younger ones in 2010.
Amen sista!
ReplyDeleteHi - I did not get to call in last week but did listen to the call over the weekend and it was encouraging. Thank you Becky for your obedience to God's call on your life.
ReplyDelete1) I will eat 1300 calories a day, I will weight, measure and journal my eating. Exercise: 30 minutes 5 days a week walking.
2) An hour each morning with the Lord.
3) My Christmas gift budget is $500
Karan
I listened to the playback today and can't to join my first call tomorrow. Of these three topics, time and over-scheduling is definitely what I need to work on. In answering your questions:
ReplyDelete1) I work out every day for 45-60 minutes/day and will continue to do so.
2) I attended the prayer conference in Lexington, SC and have committed 20 minutes/day to God. I am actually doing more like 30 minutes/day and it has changed my life tremendously even in 4 short weeks. I LOVE my time with Him. I am sporadic about when I do it so I will commit to doing it in the morning.
3) $1200
Carey
Hi All,
ReplyDeleteMy three are:
1. Meals by food combining (no carbs with protein, etc). Exercise 20 min/every other day.
2. Time with God- 30 min listening to teaching, 30 min prayer time.
3. Christmas budget $300 plus gifts we already have.
This has been the first year in a long time where my husband and I actually talked about a Christmas budget! In the past it has been hard to agree upon what we want to spend. This year since we are doing it in October and money is tight, I think it will make a big difference planning it now.
Here we go
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time to be in the saving money, calories, and time program and to blog.
I was thinking that I needed to work on time as my biggest challenge, but after praying about it, it is my calorie intake. I have not been honest about my intake for several months now and need to be accountable.
1. my exercise plan is to work out with a personal trainer and friend once a week and do 30 min of exercise for 4 other days. My diet will be 1200 a day, I have been doing Jenny Craig and need to stick to that 4 days a week and portion control for the other 3 days a week.
2 I want to spend every morning with my Lord for about 15-30 min. and then 20 min at lunch to memorize scripture and to journal my thoughts about what God is teaching me through His word.
3. This year we have less to spend than last year and I want to have a New Years eve party this year so will have to budget for that.
