Week Five: Encounter with the Living, Loving God through Luke

(Note: I've moved all remaining weeks up one week since we combined two weeks during Week Six: Assess, review and be grateful!)

This week I'm giving you an assignment that will last at least 24 days! Are you ready? I am asking ALL 100+ in our group to read the book of Luke over the next 24 days (give or take a few) AND to keep a separate, ongoing LUKE journal.

I did this last year with a few college girls and we each circled or underlined the verse EACH DAY that stood out to/for us. We were amazed at how timely, or personal, or inspirational each chapter became to us. I'm giving you the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend as a headstart BECAUSE it takes up to 15 minutes a day to read one chapter! But my hope is that reading through the book of LUKE during the next few weeks will inspire you afresh to know and love Jesus!

Be encouraged,

Becky

  3. What a great call, thank you, Becky. Great tips to stay the course. I too, was impressed when Daniel said lets do this for 10days. I was encouraged by Daniel's stadegy from God. God said to me, I will give you wisdom to carry out my plan. Then in Luke Chapter 1 I was touched my Mary's reply verse 46" Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior! For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blesses. For the Mighty One is Holy, and he has done great things for me." Wow, I loved how you told us to put ourselves into the passage. Well, I did and God really wrapped his arms around me and gave me his blessing. You are right God wants to be wanted. Tomorrow I am taking small portions as my plan. TY I put 1$ bills in my purse to give away. Today I bought groceries for a hurting family. (We got invited to go to someone elses house and the budget was there for food.) I need to find a twin bed for this family. I have 2 but they need 4. I bought 4 sets of bedding knowing God will make a way for the other 2 beds. He told me to trust me and buy for 4 beds. Nothing is impossible with God.
Thank you Lord for Jenny grace thank you for the 2 pound loss and the opportunity to go to curves. Encourage and strengthen her and all the women in our group to stay the course in obedience to you. Thank you for Becky with her encouragement and Daniel insights. We are in awe of you, Lord. Amen
Going for my walk and then pies here we come.

  4. Wow, well I guess I am going to need to employ more of this course in the next few months than I thought.
I have hypothyroid problems as a result of being treated for hyperthyroid years ago. I guess my meds went off track, and now I have slightly elevated cholesterol that I didnt have before.
I dont have real food or weight issues, but now I have a cholesterol issue that I desperately want to fix without having to go on meds for it.
I've really got to kick in stress control, some new dietary ideas and more exercise if I have even a hope of avoiding statin drugs.
(I have other medical conditions which the statins could easily make worse, so getting things under control in easier ways makes more sense.)
Long story short, this entire year and things like the 20/20/20 plan are going to be even more needed. I've given myself about three or four months to work on this and hopefully along with the change in thyroid meds, things will get better.
Becky, I'd much rather invest in this course than in more prescriptions....;-).

  5. I wanted to put up a manger in our yard this year. So ,we had to buy a blow up manger. It's not too tacky. I feel like god wants to be honored more this year.

Thank you for sharing the verse in Daniel re: his eating to honor God and to be healthy and nourished. I have really been working on making good choices in my eating. I ask if I eat this food will it help me reach my goal, now I think I will add will it help me honor God? I started reading Luke on Dec. 1. It really is a great assignment for this time of year. Focus on the real reason we are celebrating. The verse that stood out for me was in 12 when Gabriel told Zacharis that his petition had been heard and Elizabeth would have a child. I was reminded that my prayers are heard and God will answer them in the perfect time. Let us all be encouraged by this. We are here to honor God and do his will, not the other way around.
For the Salvation Army challenge: I love to have my granddaughter put the money in the bucket. I get to share with her what will happen with our money and how we need to give to others.
